The Dubai-based Saba Group has awarded the piling and foundation contract for the Dh170 million Saba Tower at the Jumeirah Lake Towers to Abu Dhabi-based Dutch Foundation Co.

A top official at Saba Group said mobilisation of the work area has already begun preparing the ground for the construction of one of the UAE's first freehold office towers.

Behrouz Javaheri, chairman of Saba Group, said: "We have chosen Dutch Foundation Co. because of the company's unmatched quality track record in piling and foundation work in the UAE as well as across the GCC. We wanted best-of-the-breed partnerships to lead the Saba Tower development to ensure that the project will tower above other similar developments."

He said Dutch Foundation was chosen after a round of strict evaluation and assessment in which many pile foundation majors shortlisted earlier were scrutinised for their quality, experience and capability in executing mega projects such as the Saba Tower development.

"We are convinced that Dutch Foundation is the ideal partner for our very first project in Dubai which in its spirit as well as execution is a trendsetter — allowing businesses to own their own office space, a completely new development in the regional real estate and construction sector," added Javaheri.

The 36-storey Saba Tower, announced last July, is the first project of the Saba Group that will come up on an area of 330,000 square feet.

Saba Group recently announced its intention to invest Dh1.2 billion in Dubai's freehold property sector in the next two years.

Apart from the office tower, it has also announced a twin tower freehold 36-storey residential complex — Saba Tower 2 &3 — at the Jumeirah Lake Towers.

"Our investments in Nakheel's Jumeirah Lake Towers, the contemporary community encompassing residential, retail and office outlets, so far is to the tune of Dh570 million, and the response from investors to our projects has been tremendous," said Javaheri.

The UK-based architectural and design firm, RMJM, are primary consultants for the project that offers office space to businesses at a rate of Dh500 per square foot.

The project offers office space ranging from 1,132 square feet to an entire floor of more than 9,000 square feet.
