As role models come, the waning pop star Michael Jackson is far from the ideal. Admittedly he still has a devoted group of fans who delight in following his every move and nuance, but as a perfect example to the youth of today, most parents could and probably would choose any number of alternatives. For a variety of reasons, not least being that his lifestyle does not set a good example to anyone.
Michael has been plagued with publicity of varying nature from an early age, and is surely used to criticism and adoration in equal amount. So reclusive has he become that it is unclear how much criticism he takes to heart, or just dismisses as being the fruit of sour grapes. But Michael has come in for severe criticism over the way he handled his six-month-old baby, when standing over the balcony rail at his hotel, some 60 feet above ground. Shamefacedly, he later said he was "carried away by the excitement of the moment" yet here is a man, some 44 years old, therefore in middle age, who is acting like an immature juvenile. What is worse, is he purports to care for children - all children. It is time for Michael to grow up and come out into the real world.
